July is Hot and Cold with Inspiration at The Creative Crafters

 The Creative  Crafters starts a monthly challenge every 15th of the month and I've made Snowman Card as inspiration for this month. 

This challenge is always "Anything Goes".

I've had the Snowman set since before last Christmas, but never had a chance to use them until the new year.  Then, what did I do?  I bought some more new dies, this time the Wonderful Christmas stamps and dies.  I made a mess of the stenciling area UNDER the DIE, so I was looking for something to cover it and didn't realize I had bought the perfect sentiment set.  This was my first try on the stencil with choosing what I thought would work and it does, but now I know I can go lighter on the backgrounds and try different colors on other parts too.

I chose to make a friendship card this time.

 

I used two new die sets and used both Copic markers and Distress Oxides to achieve what I wanted. The distress oxide inks brighten the windows, color the bucket on the stand and walkway in front of the store while anything NOT WHITE is colored with Copic markers.  I'll write something on the plant stand on top of the cart when I decide to whom I will send this card. 

I COVERED UP some mistakes on the door by using the windows that fell out of the door window.  See the white blocks below the window and mail slot?  I had one tiny but oh so noticeable brush stroke of BG09 right below the window, so two wood paneling blocks went there.  Then for some reason, there was a tiny black mark below the mail slot, so I used 4 blocks to make it look like that was the way the door panel was supposed to look like.

I used the Lemonade & Amber for the windows, but I wanted more distinction, so I added a very light sponging of Apple.  
I'm very happy I invested in this corner store.  It was fun to put together.  I would watch the Vintage Pastry Shoppe Youtube video on putting the shoppe together as it is full of extra stuff - yes stuff.  Remember the door is open, so be sure to let the light shine down to the floor of the door.

Using all the colors above, I made this card.  I used pattern papers, the scraps of which are in front of the card here.  I know it's hard to tell because of the pattern papers which capture the colors in bits and pieces.  I wanted to say I used my favorite Poppy Stamps dies, but honestly, every time I create with Poppy Stamps dies, I want to say THIS ONE is my Favorite.   I think the two background dies give such a different look with changing either the colors or how they are stacked or using pattern papers.  

Unfortunately I had to use this card last week.

I don't remember where I got this digital stamp and I think she is so cute.  If anyone does know the creator, please write a comment on this post and let me know so I can give credit where credit is due.  I found her in my stash drawer and couldn't put her back.  Who could?

I purchased some Place Cards a year or so ago and have been using them for the foundations of my slimline and mini slimline cards.  They are really nice to work with as they are already folded and I don't have to waste that much of my cardstock up for odd shaped card bases.  This is a mini slimline card and I think the image is just darling.

What a Wonderful Arch for Craft Roulette

I was looking through a drawer of die-cuts and saw the perfect die cut for this challenge.  I chose blue to sponge on the die cut and fell in love with how this came out.  I started out with yellow, turned to blue and some red oxide inks on the panel inside the window.  I was picking up the sponge handle, dropped it and oops, a slash of red ended up on that beautiful bright yellow... sigh.  That's why I randomly used the edge of the sponge around the top edge of the card.

Got That Craft Roulette Card

The categories for last week's challenge at Craft Roulette

Project: Square - card is square
Colors: Butterfly(ies) - yellow,  red, orange, pink & green of earth
Element: Cloud(s)/Cloudy - clouds in sky
Random: Tied - string tied to the balloon

I tore some paper & placed it on the card base and brushed the inks on to make a cloudy, but sunny sky, then the green grass with the tattered Rose making up the hills.  All images, including the sentiment came for the same set.  I hoped the elephant with the raised hand would signify a lost balloon flying up into the sky.

Out of all the options available, I chose Ribbons to work with.  I thought that if I could use Washi tape to make a background, I'd try the same with ribbon.  I had bought the frame die set and thought I'd try it out.  I remembered I had a flower that might fit perfectly within the frame and I think perhaps I should have used black for the lettering, but I thought the brown would match the brown disk on the daisy.  I still like it and I hope my mailing buddy likes it too.
I cut the flower & stem out of bright yellow cardstock and colored the flower to enrich the yellow already there and added green to the stem.

A bit of fantasy today.  I chose to work with Firefly Greyscale.  I used milled lavender distress ink to shade the background first and then some pale blues for the clothes, Copic colors B0000, B000 & B00.  I didn't think it needed anything else this time around.  I just couldn't get these colors out of my mind.

Poppies in June

 Poppies in June

This month we're having a color challenge.  Use at least three or more colors from the color palette, plus optional black/white and skin tones (on people).  Remember to also use die cut and/or dry embossing on your project to qualify. 

I came as close as I could (with glitter paper) as I could with the colors. I do love this die set as it's so versatile with just the dies that come with the set. I love using glitter papers with them, but have used regular colored stock.  The sentiments do come from other sets.

The challenge is to make your creation look like it is water colored.  You can use water colors, distress and distress oxides or whatever you want to get the water color look we want to see.

As I've said before, I find water coloring a challenge, but I do like this card. I know it looks like a tag, but it is an A2 size card. I bought two 8-packs of these cards and envelopes years back and still have a couple cards left. This card turned out to be so much fun!  I actually used it to send a not too late, but late, birthday card.
